about
Breaking Up Christmas is an old-time traditional fiddle tune learned from the playing of Tommy Jarrell, John McCutcheon, Bruce Molsky and others, about breaking up the Christmas celebration in mountainous parts over several nights of house parties. We had to cut several nights down to five minutes, but hopefully it's still a party.
lyrics
Hooray Jake and Hooray John
Breaking up Christmas all night long
Way back yonder, Long time ago
The old folks danced the do si do.
Way down yonder, along side the creek,
I saw santa Clause washing his feet.
Santa Clause come, Done, and gone.
Breaking up Christmas all night Long.
i dun gone said it
driving down that muddy road
this is the best you’ll ever get it
and the rain never slowed
if your boots dry wet it
we’re going all night long
stomping out time to forget it
till christmas is long gone
Hold up Jake
and Hold up john
the wagon sink we’ll never let
lets push it along
i dun gone said it
their gonna play our tune
and you bet they won’t regret it
come on y’all
let’s get there soon
push it along
push it along
push it along
yea, push it along
Wood on the fire
food on the grill
Mama lights the candles on the window sill
Uncle brought the steaks
He just bagged a deer
Poppa grabs a mug
Pours a pint of beer
Santa takes a break
Pulls up his black boot
gives a quick shake down the chimney chute
Pulls out his list
its 12 miles long
breaking up christmas all night long
